Garments merchandising is one of the most challenging profession in the world. Garments merchandising is that which contributes to the sale of products to a retail consumer. A garment merchandiser has to analyze customers and consumers as well as to follow their behaviors to sell the garments merchandise. There are different types of garments merchandise which are bifurcated as given below on the basis of its utility and features.
Types of Garments Merchandise:
There are various types of garments merchandise, which are mentioned in the below:
- Staple merchandise,
- Fashion merchandise,
- Seasonal merchandise,
- Fad merchandise.
All the above types of garments merchandise have discussed in the following:
1. Staple Merchandise:
Staple merchandising is related with those basic products that are always in demand. Various staple merchandising products are socks, handkerchiefs, white shirts, black trousers etc.
2. Fashion Merchandise:
Fashion merchandise is related with those products that based on features of fashion are forecasted for that year. It can be colour, ascents, accessories, style, length etc. These products have high demand but have a short lifecycle.
3. Seasonal Merchandise:
Seasonal merchandise is related with those products that sell only in a particular timeframe. Various seasonal merchandising products are sweaters in winter, gumboots in rainy season etc.
4. Fad Merchandise:
Fad merchandise is related with those products that based on the latest trend actor, movie, event e.g. merchandise marketed based of the movie Krissh. The selling for these goods is high but short lived.
Product range or Assortment planning:
The product range is finalized to be sold in the store of the buyer consists of styles that cover all the above 4 types of merchandise [staple, fashion, seasonal, fad]. For the season the buyers merchandising team decides on the percentage of goods to be produced in the range on past and predicted sales. The number of styles, fabrics, colours, sizes etc. is decided accordingly. Once decided the buyer will distribute the orders of these styles internationally to exporters who give them the best quality product and price.
