How to Estimate Operator Efficiency in Garments Industry?
The term “Operator efficiency” has a great impact on the garments manufacturing sector. Operator efficiency is proportional to the higher production of an order. So, operator efficiency estimation or calculation is very important to achieve the production target. As its importance in the RMG sector, today I will present the estimation method of operator efficiency.
The calculation method of Operator Efficiency in Garments Industry:
Before estimating or calculating an operator’s efficiency an industrial engineer should confirm the following items:
- Total number of pieces made by the operator,
- SAM (Standard Allowed Minutes) of the operation (Cutting or Sewing),
- Total working hours in the machine.
Now, by using the following formula, an industrial engineer can easily estimate or calculate the operator’s efficiency.
Operator’s efficiency (%),
Now, one example is enough to remove all the confusion from the above discussion.
Example:
In Noman Fashion Ltd. an operator was doing an operation of SAM 0.60 minute. In that time he produced 400 pieces in 8 hours working shift per day. Now calculate the operator’s efficiency.
Solution:
Here,
Total number of pieces made by the operator- 400pcs
SAM (Standard allowed minutes) of the operation (Cutting or Sewing) – 0.6minute
Total working hours in the machine- 8hrs
So, by putting all the information in the blow formula, an industrial engineer can estimate or calculate the operator’s efficiency.
Operator efficiency (%),
= 50%
So, the operator’s efficiency stands at 50%.
Note:
You can try to solve the below two problems related to this question:
- An operator of Tawhida Nishat Apparel Ltd. was doing an operation of Standard Allowed Minutes (SAM) 0.50 minute. He produced 300 pieces in that time in 7 hours working shift per day. Now calculate the operator’s efficiency of that factory.
- Rahela, a female operator of Chittagong Fashions Ltd has completed an operation of Standard Allowed Minutes (SAM) 0.55 minute. She manufactured 350 pieces in that time in 9 hours working shift per day. Find out the operator’s efficiency of that clothing manufacturing factory.
