List of Fabrics Used in Shirt Manufacturing:

Fabric is the basic material in garments manufacturing. It can be a woven fabric or knitted fabric. After placing a garment export order, the garments buyer informs the garments merchandiser about the types of fabrics have to use in their required items. This article has shown a brief discussion about the different fabrics used in woven shirt manufacturing.

Different Types of Fabric Used in Woven Shirt Manufacturing:

There are a lot of woven fabrics that are vastly used in woven shirt manufacturing. Those are mentioned in the following:

  2. Denim fabric,
  3. Oxford fabric,

1. Poplin fabric or broadcloth:

Generally, the broadcloth is referred to as poplin fabrics. Poplin is a medium weight cotton fabric having a fine weft rib. It is plain weave woven fabrics where fine warp yarn and coarse weft yarns are used. Normally it is dyed in solid colors.

2. Denim fabric:

It is traditionally a yarn-dyed warp faced cotton twill fabrics, where warp yarn are in yellow, blue, or black colors and weft yarn is in white color. In the case of denim shirt manufacturing, too much softer and lighter versions of denim fabrics should select.

3. Oxford fabric:

Oxford fabrics are very similar to pinpoint oxford fabrics except it uses a slightly heavier thread and looser weave. Oxford fabrics have a slightly rougher texture but it is more durable than other fabrics. It is composed of an asymmetrical basket weave where one yarn may cross two yarns.

4. Pinpoint oxford fabric:

Pinpoint oxford fabrics has the same weave as oxford fabric. Though it uses a finer yarn and tighter weaves. Pinpoint oxford fabric is more formal than oxford fabrics but less formal than broadcloth.

5. Corduroy fabric:

It is a cut pile fabric that is available in solid colors. The cut pile fibers are seen in the form of ribs on the surface.

6. Chambray fabric:

Chambray fabrics are plain weave fabrics that have a similar construction as broadcloth or poplin fabric. It is a light to medium weight fabric with an almost square count (i.e. 80 X76). Chambray fabrics have a colored warp and usually a white filling.

7. Crepe fabric:

Crepe fabrics is a silk fabric that is originally characterized by a crinkle, puckered surface formed by highly twisted yarns in the warp or weft or both.

8. Flannel fabric:

Flannel fabrics is a warm, fuzzy fabric that is most often brushed twill or brushed poplin fabrics. It looks like a bulky fabric due to the milling that is usually done to this fabric. Flannel fabrics are popular as cleaning fabrics due to their higher softness.

9. Dobby fabric:

Some dobby fabrics are similar to broadcloth in terms of thickness and weight, where others can be thicker or woven to almost look like twill. It should be noted that many dobby fabrics have stripes woven and others are solid colors. In dobby fabrics, solid colors tend to have faint stripes or dotted patterns woven in the same color as the base cloth.

10. Gabardine fabric:

Gabardine fabrics is a twill weave fabric that is made of a variety of natural and synthetic fibers. It is a medium weight fabric made of fine yarns. Gabardine fabric contains more number of warp yarns than weft yarns.

11. Melange fabric:

Melange fabric is made from melange yarn. Melange fabrics can come in each type of weave such as poplin, twill, royal oxford fabric, etc., and are woven using multi-colored yarns. Melange fabrics are different than Mouline fabrics.

12. Kashmir silk:

It is a silk fabric produced in plain weave. The motifs used here are the characteristics of Kashmir silk.

13. Royal oxford cloth:

Royal oxford cloth is not at all similar to pinpoint oxford or oxford cloth. Royal oxford cloth is a dressy fabric with a distinctive shine and texture which has a more prominent weave than broadcloth or pinpoint fabric.

14. Khadi fabric:

Khadi is a familiar term used in a wide variety of fabrics that are hand-spun and handwoven. Khadi is produced by using mainly one cotton fiber, blended of two or more fibers.

15. Herringbone fabric:

Herringbone fabric name comes from its resemblance to the bones of a herring fish. This kind of fabric is essentially a twill that is mirrored when woven to create the sort of chevron, “V-shaped” look.
